FAQs

What is an Employer of Record (EoR) in Germany?
An Employer of Record (EoR) in Germany allows international companies to hire local talent without establishing a German legal entity. worknow acts as the legal employer, managing all administrative, tax, and social security obligations while the employee works directly for you. Our model ensures 100% compliance with German labor law from day one.
Is an AÜG License required for EoR in Germany?
Yes. Under German law, EoR models are classified as labor leasing (Arbeitnehmerüberlassung). To operate legally, a provider must hold an AÜG license issued by the Federal Employment Agency. worknow holds a permanent AÜG license, providing the highest level of legal security and protecting our clients from significant non-compliance risks.
How does worknow differ from global EoR platforms?
Unlike global "plug-and-play" platforms, worknow is a specialized, Berlin-based provider. We don’t use third-party partners or anonymous ticketing systems. You get direct access to in-house experts who understand the nuances of German payroll, tax, and social security, ensuring a premium, personal service instead of a standardized software layer.
What are the costs for EoR services in Germany?
Transparent Pricing. No Hidden Margins.

Our standard monthly EoR service fee is fixed at 599€ per employee. This covers the entire lifecycle of employment, including compliant contract drafting, monthly payroll processing, social security management, and dedicated expert support.

To ensure a seamless start and a compliant conclusion of each employment relationship, we apply a one-time Onboarding Fee of 199€ and a one-time Offboarding Fee of 199€. These cover the extensive initial legal registrations and the final statutory deregistration processes required under German law.

The Security Reserve (Deposit): To guarantee uninterrupted salary payments and full compliance with German social security obligations, a fully refundable security deposit is required. This typically equals 1.5 months of total employment costs (gross salary + employer contributions). This reserve is held in a protected account to ensure the financial safety of the employment setup and is 100% refundable upon the termination of the service agreement.
Are there limits on employment duration in Germany?
According to the German Temporary Staffing Act (AÜG), the maximum duration for a single assignment is 18 months. worknow monitors these statutory limits closely and advises you on alternative compliant setups if long-term employment beyond 18 months is required.

Can worknow handle bonus payments and incentives?
Yes. We offer the flexibility to incorporate bonus payments and incentives into the payroll process. To ensure a clear separation of legal liability and maximum flexibility, we treat these as discretionary payments initiated by the client, which we then process compliantly through our in-house payroll system.
Can worknow provide a company car or fuel card?
The Short Answer: To ensure maximum legal safety and flexibility, worknow does not provide direct vehicle leasing for EoR arrangements.

The Strategy: Due to the 18-month statutory limit under the German Temporary Staffing Act (AÜG), long-term leasing contracts often create significant financial and legal risks for international clients. Instead, we recommend a compliant alternative:

  • Mileage Reimbursement: We process tax-free travel expenses according to German statutory rates.
  • Private Leasing: Your employee arranges a private or long-term rental, which you then subsidize via our payroll system.

This approach keeps your setup agile while remaining 100% compliant with German tax and social security regulations.
